The TrayMaster Difference

The concept for each new TrayMaster insert begins not at the drawing board, but with many hours spent in actual game play. That's because a truly amazing insert does far more than store game components. It elevates the entire board gaming experience—setup, game play, cleanup, and storage. This is the TrayMaster difference.

Complete Storage Solution

What's the point of an insert that doesn't hold everything? And by everything, we mean every component for the game along with every expansion that currently exists! If there is a way to physically store all components within the game box, TrayMaster will find it. In huge games, such as the Legendary Box edition of Scythe, base game elements are stored at the top of the massive box, whereas the trays for optional modules find a place near the bottom.

Modularity / Future-proofing

Some inserts are built with future expansions in mind—either through modular trays or optional add-ons. TrayMaster grows with your collection, not against it.

Decentralized Setup & Cleanup

Big games can require a lot of setup and cleanup time, and often only one player is familiar with the game components. When applicable, a TrayMaster insert will include a game tray for each player. This allows new players to participate in setup and cleanup, greatly reducing the time for these tasks.

Visual Component Check

TrayMaster bins are generally sized for a flush fill, meaning that the components will stack neatly to the top. This way, even inexperienced players can see at a glance if all pieces are accounted for. Once again, this speeds up cleanup by distributing the work across all players at the table.

Gameplay Integration

Many trays serve a dual purpose: secure storage and in-game utility. These trays are designed to come straight out of the box and onto the table, keeping components organized and accessible during play. In resource heavy games with high player counts, there are often two resource trays—one for each side of the table. Some trays, not necessary for storage at all, are used exclusively during game play. That's the functional advantage of an insert designed by people who actually play the game.

Quick-pick Features

No more digging, pinching, or awkward tipping. Every component or removable bin includes a feature—like finger notches, lift tabs, or angled edges—to make grabbing pieces quick and easy. If it’s meant to come out, we’ve made sure it does so without a fight.

No Catch-all Bins

Yuck! Catch-all bins are lazy ways to hold pieces. At TrayMaster we believe every piece deserves a proper home, not a random pit of plastic purgatory. That's why our inserts give every component a proper home. Sometimes this requires a lot of work—either the careful outlining of irregularly shaped pieces, or even a full 3D scan of some complex miniatures. That's part of the TrayMaster difference!

Exception: Some games are often used with unofficial or third-party extras (like custom tokens or 3D printed upgrades for Scythe or Terraforming Mars). Since these vary widely, a few miscellaneous bins may be included for the unpredictable.

Intuitive Layout

You shouldn't need a user manual just to put your game away. TrayMaster inserts are designed to feel obvious—like they just make sense. Most components fit only where they belong, thanks to their unique shapes. And when that’s not enough, we print identifying symbols or labels right into the insert so there’s no guesswork, just satisfaction.

Shelf-safe Design

Store your game upright with confidence. TrayMaster inserts lock all trays and components in place, preventing chaos even when your box is stored vertically. Additionally, every game box is filled exactly to the top, preventing lid caving and making your box stackable.

Precision Craftsmanship

Every insert is custom-built with obsessive attention to detail. Components are measured down to the thousandth of a millimeter, miniatures are scanned for an exact fit, and each tray is test-printed and refined before release.

Durability

Our inserts are 3D printed with durable, high-quality materials made to handle repeated use and enthusiastic game nights. These trays aren't flimsy organizers—they're part of your long-term gaming experience.

No Assembly Required

Unlike basswood inserts, which usually require assembly, gluing, and/or staining, TrayMaster inserts come ready to use right out of the box. No tools, no hassle—just unpack and start playing!

Guaranteed Fit

Game components aren’t always perfectly uniform—sometimes a token is a bit thicker or a mini slightly off-size. If your components don’t fit our insert as expected, we’ve got you covered. We’ll work with you to tweak, adjust, or reprint whatever’s needed to make it right. That’s our fit guarantee, because at TrayMaster, “almost fits” is just a fancy way of saying “nope".
